XF705

All-in-one flagship 4K UHD camera with H.265 support

The flagship model of Canon's highly-reputed XF series, the XF705 is Canon’s first camera to support H.265/HEVC, an encoding format that enables more efficient recording of
4K UHD 50P/60P footage into an SD card. Users can also simultaneously output a 4K signal to an external recorder during recordings with the new 12G-SDI interface. The lens is from Canon ’s ultra-high-performance, premium-quality
L series and covers a 15x optical zoom range, providing high-resolution images with minimal distortion and color aberration—traits that are ideal for 4K capture. During manual focusing, information from the high-speed, high-precision Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is used to display a focus guide that informs users of the exact focusing position, enabling the highly accurate focus operation necessary for professional quality footage.

Features

1.0-inch type sensor,                Dual Pixel CMOS AF, L lens

The large, highly sensitive 8.29-megapixel 1.0-inch type sensor captures footage with a wide dynamic range. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system supports touchscreen operation (Touch AF) on the 4.0-inch LCD monitor; Face Detection AF; and Continuous AF, which enables continuous AF control when shooting moving subjects. Three levels of settings for AF speed and AF response are available for greater precision. Image quality is further assured with the use of a lens from Canon’s highly-acclaimed premium L lens series. Featuring 15x optical zoom, the lens comes equipped with a 9-bladed aperture that produces images with beautiful, natural bokeh, as well as two aspherical and one Super UD element to ensure the high image quality necessary for 4K capture.

Supports two HDR formats and Canon Log 3

With its support for a wide variety of gammas, the versatile XF705 holds its own in the dynamic world of 4K production. The new HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and PQ (Perceptual Quantization) formats, which are compatible with next-generation devices, address the increasingly high standards of HDR production. They also aid the proliferation of HDR in applications such as online streams and film, in addition to traditional TV broadcasts. Canon Log 3 is also supported for the first time in the XF-series. Designed with post-processing in mind, Clog3 retains detail in the shadow and highlight areas while expanding dynamic range to 800%. Meanwhile, wide DR gamma smoothly compresses highlight areas and expands the dynamic range without the need for post-processing, making it ideal for time-sensitive workflows.

High-operability designed with professional users in mind

True to its status as the flagship model of the XF series, the XF705 boasts a design that caters to professional users. In response to professional camera operators’ demands, three separate rings for focus, zoom and iris control enable direct, intuitive control of lens functions even while looking through the viewfinder. The monitor can be tilted and swiveled out to both left and right, making it highly adaptable to any shooting condition. User interfaces, including new terminals for HDMI and 12G-SDI output, have been clustered together at the back of the camera for easier handling. To reduce the burden on camera operators during long hours of shooting, a new removable elastomeric shoulder pad offers increased stability and the grip angle has been adjusted to 15° for less wrist strain.
