This is the world’s lightest*1 super-telephoto lens, with a focal length of 600mm and a fixed f/11 aperture, weighing approximately 930g. The optical system of the RF600mm f/11 IS STM features DO lenses with aspherical lens characteristics and a chromatic aberration correction feature. The lens suppresses chromatic aberration and other aberrations that tend to occur with telephoto lenses, to deliver high image quality.
The lens has a retractable structure which extends when shooting but, when retracted, is 70mm shorter and easy to carry in a camera bag. The lightweight design includes extensive use of strong plastic materials. The image stabilization feature is as effective at suppressing camera-shake as a 5-stop increase in shutter speed*2.
*1 Refers to autofocus-compatible lenses for interchangeable-lens cameras (SLR cameras and mirrorless cameras) with a focal length of 600mm. As of July 8, 2020, based on internal Canon surveys.
*2 When used with EOS R camera. Based on CIPA standards. Effective in the yaw and pitch directions only.
