The "L" Macro Lens takes macro photography to a whole new level. Its new optical design reduces various aberrations that can degrade image quality, such as suppressing spherical aberration when shooting from close range. The lens produces high-quality images comparable to the EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. It has a maximum magnification of 1.4x (minimum focus distance 0.26m), which is significantly higher than the maximum magnification of standard macro lenses (1.0x). This allows the photographer to get closer to the subject, capturing powerful images as well as the fine details and textures of small objects, flowers, and other living creatures. Additionally, the lens includes Canon's first Spherical Aberration (SA) Control Ring, which allows photographers to adjust spherical aberration, enabling them to easily achieve a wide range of photographic expressions, including images with out-of-focus elements (bokeh) that reflect their personal preferences. When used in conjunction with the camera's in-body IS, the lens provides image stabilisation equivalent to an 8.0-stop* increase in shutter speed, broadening the scope of hand-held macro photography.
