The EF50mm f/1.8 II and EF50mm f/1.8 STM are the best-selling lenses in the “50mm f/1.8” series, and have been popular with a multitude of users over the years. The long-awaited conversion to the RF mount has launched a new chapter in Canon lens history. The innovative optical system combines high quality with excellent portability and cost performance.
The effective placement of a PMo aspherical lens element helps correct for various types of aberration, and maintains high image quality all the way to the periphery of the image. The f/1.8 maximum aperture is also useful when trying to achieve a powerful bokeh effect. When mounted on an EOS camera equipped with in-body image stabilization, it is as effective at reducing camera-shake blur as a 7-stop increase in shutter speed*1. This makes it useful for photographing night scenes and taking indoor portraits. With a maximum magnification of 0.25x, this lens does not exaggerate perspective, and offers a field of view similar to what you see with the naked eye. It is also suitable for photographing food and small objects.
*1 When used with EOS R5 camera. Based on CIPA standards. Effective in the yaw and pitch directions only.
Note: This lens is equipped with a focus/control ring that integrates the focus ring and the control ring.
