It is said that Brazil has the greatest biodiversity on the planet.

The immense variety of plants—found even in large cities such as Sao Paulo which has 20M people in its Metropolitan area—offers an open invitation to explore macro photography. In my view, the delicate, well-defined lines of a plant are not very different from jewelry photography, where attention to detail is crucial.

This watch belongs to my father. It was found broken in a drawer after many years of disuse. The lighting, which comes from a large monitor projecting an image of a fireplace, perfectly matches its copper and black tones. After being photographed, it was finally repaired and returned.

There are six major biomes in Brazil. Besides the Amazon rainforest, which is the best-known worldwide, the Atlantic Forest is closer to major urban centers and also boasts immense biodiversity, with thousands of endemic plants. Just look at the ground while strolling through a park to find a huge number of leaves with unique patterns. That's how this one was found.

I thought I had found a lifeless bee on the ground in front of the studio. I only realized it was alive when I positioned it on top of the flower. The pollen certainly did it good.

Flávio Demarchi (Brazil)

Flávio Demarchi is a Brazilian photographer born in 1980. His first contact with photography came in childhood, through photojournalism and science magazines. Although initially drawn to the fine arts, he chose to pursue a degree in advertising and marketing. After a few years working as an art director, he decided to leave the field and fully embrace his passion for photography. From his interest in the arts, he carried over a meticulous attention to detail; from advertising, he retained the focus on prioritising the message and never settling for the first result.

He has photographed for various magazines in Brazil and abroad, always seeking to create images that are imaginative and unconventional. Currently, he also works in the advertising market, but this time outside the office—producing photography for major brands.

Since 2012, he has been a partner of Canon College Brazil (Canon Brazil's Photography Courses), providing consultancy, photography, and video services.
