This “L” Macro Lens takes the world of macro photography to another level. The new optical design reduces various aberrations that cause image quality deterioration, through the means such as suppressing spherical aberration when shooting at close range. The lens delivers high image quality equivalent to that of the EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. It has a maximum magnification of 1.4x (minimum focus distance 0.26m) — far beyond the top magnification of ordinary macro lenses (1.0x). This allows the photographer to get closer to the subject, to capture powerful images and the finest details and textures of small objects, flowers, and other living creatures. The lens also features Canon's first Spherical Aberration (SA) Control Ring, which allows the photographer to adjust the spherical aberration. This allows photographers to easily achieve a variety of photographic expressions, including images with out-of-focus elements (bokeh) to match their own preferences. When used in coordinated control with the camera’s in-body IS, the lens offers image stabilization equivalent to an 8.0-stop* increase in shutter speed, further expanding the possibilities of hand-held macro photography.
