The EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM is a handy telephoto zoom lens that has been popular users over the years. The RF100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is based on that lens, but its range has been further extended at the telephoto end. A compact and lightweight lens with a zoom range of 100-400mm, it is about the size of a 350ml cup, and can be easily stowed and carried in a camera bag.
The lens also features a UD lens element, aspherical lens element, and other optics to maintain crisp, clear image quality. The minimum focus distance is 0.88m at the 200mm setting, allowing photographers to take advantage of the pronounced bokeh effect that is unique to telephoto lenses. The camera’s image stabilization (IS) performance is as effective at suppressing camera-shake blur as a 5.5-stop increase in shutter speed*1. When used in conjunction with the in-body IS features of an EOS R camera, the performance improves to a 6.0-stop*2 increase in shutter speed. A nano USM provides smooth AF whether taking still photos or videos.
