Catering to the latest standards in HDR productions, Canon’s DP-V1830 is an 18-inch display with 4K HDR capabilities accompanied by a strong suite of engineering and monitoring tools. Equipped with a panel that allows for an astounding peak luminance of 1000cd/m2 and 0.001cd/m2 black level.

Ultra High Image Quality 4K HDR Monitor

Engineered to meet the most exacting standards of the broadcast and cinema industries, Canon’s DP-V1830 fulfils most requirements of both EBU and Dolby Visions standards. With 1000cd/m2 and  0.001cd/m2  black level, the DP-V1830 achieves a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Alongside the hardware components, software improvements have also been made, allowing for extremely precise dimming control to control unwanted blooming for better image quality.

An exclusive optical design meant to enhance viewing angles, paired with an anti-glare coating allows for the DP-V1830’s superior image quality to shine through in different monitoring environments and seating positions of the operators.

18-inch Display with Industry Standard features

With a newly designed chassis, the DP-V1830 fits an 18inch, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) panel into a chassis that is 443mm(W) x 310mm(H) x 130mm(D). These dimensions allow the display to be mounted into broadcast standard 19 inch rack mounts via a separate accessory, ensuring compatibility with current broadcast infrastructure.

The DP-V1830 is also designed to operate quietly, a requirement in broadcast and grading environments to ensure operator comfort and efficiency.

HDR / SDR Waveform

In this new normal of HDR production, directors, colorists and cinematographers are all working on content that needs to be shown in both HDR and SDR. With the ability to compare both HDR and SDR outputs at the same time, the production process has less guesswork as compared to monitoring a single range.

False Colour

False color is also available on the DP-V1830. This is a feature that has enabled cinematographers to judge exposure precisely on set, an invaluable tool in HDR production where precise monitoring is crucial to the production’s success.

PQ / HLG Waveform

By having options for PQ and HLG, the DP-V1830 can display waveforms in the 2 scales that are most widely used in HDR production for Cinema and Broadcast respectively. This enables the display to be used for dual purposes in the same infrastructure if required, increasing ROI on the unit.

This flexibility allows for usage not only in live production where HDR and SDR transmission is required but also on production sets where the final output will be graded in two different colour spaces. 

BT2020 Out-of-Gamut Display

Canon Reference displays also have a built in BT2020 Out-of-gamut display function where the monitor can accurately show which portions of the image are out of BT2020 range, allowing broadcast engineers and colorists to see if there are issues with the image when prepping for broadcast or other transmission.

Additional Features

The DP-V1830 has built in features to assist workflows on set. 8K 2SI or 8K SQD are supported via 4x 12G-SDI cables, future proofing investment for this display. LUTs for popular camera brands such as Arri & RED come pre-loaded, allowing for Log Monitoring without additional processes. Simultaneous display of multiple image streams are also possible, allowing for multi-view function that accommodates different PsF and frequencies.

Peaking

With critical sharpness being required in the acquisition of 4K footage, peaking is incorporated into the display for immediate focus and sharpness checks at the push of a button from the video village, adding another layer of reference is needed.

HDR Metadata Display

Canon’s reference displays can also display the metadata from incoming signals via a quick info panel display in the menu. This allows operators to quickly check the resolution, frame rates, SDI payload data as well as the characteristics of the inputs for easier matching with the display’s color profile.

Audio Level Meter

By building in a eight channel audio level display, the DP-V1830 has the capability to monitor basic audio signals in the display. This can be invaluable in some situations where traditional means of procuring an audio signal for basic usage might be compromised.

Screen Capture

A particularly useful feature that Canon Reference Displays come with is the ability to perform a screen capture (with or without OSD) to a USB drive. This allows for usage for on set workflows to mark and export a particular frame from the display into a USB drive for easy sharing across departments.
