This super-telephoto zoom lens offers a zoom range of 100mm to 500mm, powerful image stabilization, and the faithful image reproduction performance only an L-series lens can deliver. The super-telephoto range exceeds that of the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, which has been a favorite of professionals and advanced amateurs, yet it is approximately 200g lighter. It features one Super Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens and six UD lens elements to suppress chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range. In addition, electronic floating focus control provides excellent image reproduction performance even at short distances. The minimum focusing distance is 0.9m at the wide end, and the image stabilization effect of the lens alone is equivalent to a 5.0-stop* increase in shutter speed. This lens can be used for virtually any telephoto purpose, including taking shots of airplanes, trains, wildlife, and sporting events.
