This is a 1200mm super-telephoto lens, with performance that is only possible thanks to the RF mount design. The lens uses the same basic optical design as the RF600mm f/4L IS USM, which offers an ideal balance of light weight and high image quality. By placing optimized magnification optics at the rear of the lens, Canon was able to reduce the dimensions and weight significantly compared with the predecessor model — the EF1200mm f/5.6L USM. It is extremely light for a 1200mm interchangeable lens for SLR-type mirrorless cameras (approximately 3,340g). The lens also features fluorite and super Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens components for clear, sharp, high image quality with no color bleeding. When combined with the EXTENDER RF 1.4x or EXTENDER RF 2x, it is possible to capture subjects at a great distance. Even with an extender attached, it can deliver the high image quality one expects from an L-series lens.
