This RF cinema lens is ideal for users seeking a cinematic expression with a large-format camera in both live settings (sports, reporting, etc.) and creative uses (dramas, documentaries, etc.). An ultra-wide-angle focal length allows for capturing challenging images with large-format sensors, providing a practical solution for diverse live productions and virtual production in limited spaces.
The 11-55mm is the widest focal length in the CINE-SERVO lens series.
Widest Angle in the CINE-SERVO Lens Series
The CN5 x 11 IAS T (RF/PL) offers an impressive 11mm focal length, providing an ultra-wide angle of over 100-degrees at the wide end. This feature is ideal for capturing wide-angle shots with a strong sense of depth, especially in situations where getting close to the subject is challenging, the camera position is fixed, or an overhead shot is necessary.
Closest shooting distance (0.6 m): 74.2 x 39.1 cm.
*With a horizontal angle of view at the wide end, aspect ratio 1.9:1, screen size 26.2 x 13.8 mm.
Outstanding Optical Performance
Canon's optical technologies, such as the use of large-diameter aspherical lenses and anomalous dispersion glass, work together to deliver optical performance that is suitable for 8K cameras across the entire zoom range. Aberrations are minimised to ensure exceptional performance from the center of the image to the edges.
The Cinema Lens series is designed with a consistently warm colour balance that reproduces skin tones more beautifully to depict subject textures better. Colour reproduction remains stable even after changing lenses, reducing colour adjustment with each shot and time and effort for postproduction.
Lens metadata communication via the mount is enabled with compatible Cinema EOS System RF cinema cameras. In addition to the same functions as previous models, it now offers support for in-camera distortion correction according to lens characteristics.
This advancement makes highly accurate real-time and post-production computer generate (CG) compositing possible.
The CN5 x 11 IAS T PL supports eXtended Data, which is an extension of the Cooke /i Technology communications standard offered by ZEISS. When connected to the PL mount contacts of a compatible camera, this feature enables the real-time output of lens information. This includes real-time data on shading and distortion, as well as the capability to record and correct this information.
The CN5 x 11 IAS T PL is compatible with Cooke's /i Technology communication standard. Connecting to the PL mount contacts of a compatible camera enables real-time external output of lens metadata, including focus, zoom, iris position, model number, and other relevant data. This allows for the recording and display of essential information.
The CN5 x 11 IAS T (RF/PL) supports 12-pin serial communication, which is the standard for broadcast camera systems. When connected to a compatible camera's 12-pin connector, it allows for the operation and control of the camera, similar to the industry-standard portable lenses used in broadcasting.
CN5 x 11 IAS T (RF/PL) supports the Canon Virtual Production System. It communicates and calculates lens and camera information in real time, making it possible to retrieve CV metadata with a single Ethernet cable for recording. No prior calibration is required, and distortion data is delivered in tandem with zoom and other lens operations, allowing users to easily obtain more natural CG-composited images that match and coordinate with the shooting ranges of the real camerawork and the virtual space.
The RF mount’s high-speed 12-pin connection delivers real-time metadata output. Zoom, focus, and iris data are transmitted directly to the camera, processed instantly, and output via plugin as CV metadata — enabling natural CG composites that align seamlessly with real camerawork.
Minimum Object Distance (MOD)
Minimum Object Distance (MOD) Definition
MOD values are defined differently for broadcast and cinema lenses. Although the CN5 x 11 IAS T (RF/PL) and CJ15ex4.3B list different MOD figures on their specification sheets, they both deliver about the same working distance in practice.
