Canon Comprises Number One Share of Press Cameras used during the 19th Asian Games in China
SINGAPORE, 12 October 2023 — Canon Inc. announced today that Canon-brand equipment comprised the number one share — approximately 64%1 of cameras — used by press photographers at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Throughout the event, Canon has empowered professional photographers aiming to capture decisive moments and contributed to the success of the event.
Professional photographers demand comprehensive assistance from camera makers, including state-of-the-art technology, top-class performance, customised service and a strong support network.
Canon is active behind the scenes at a wide variety of sporting events, aiming to achieve “zero downtime” for professional photographers so they’re never forced to stop and miss definitive moments of these intense competitions. For decades, the Company has built a reliable reputation and helped journalists on the front lines through a wide range of services. In addition, it has responded to customer needs by launching the EOS R series, including EOS R3 (released in November 2021) and EOS R5 (released in July 2020), as well as RF lens series, as photographers have come to use more mirrorless cameras. Thanks to such efforts, Canon-brand equipment comprised the number one share—approximately 64% of cameras—used by press photographers at the 19th Asian Games, which Canon supported as the only Japanese Official Sponsor company. At the event, Canon provided prompt maintenance and repairs to photographers at the camera service booth in the Main Media Center2 and at the Hangzhou Quick Repair Center.
Canon will continue striving to create competitive, highly reliable products and, through such on-site support of journalists as equipment maintenance, contribute to the further advancement of photographic and videographic expression.

The equipment maintenance and technical support provided by Canon Professional Service has been invaluable in helping us accomplish our various news assignments. Their attentive service allowed us to focus on reporting on the games without worrying about the equipment. We hope to work more closely with Canon in the future.

I shot this Asian Games with three EOS R3s. The performance of the EOS R3 is impressive. With its advanced subject recognition, high speed continuous shooting, and high speed shutter, you will not miss the most important moments in any sports shooting. And after shooting, I was able to post my photos immediately thanks to their excellent communication functions such as Wi-Fi connection and FTP transfer.
