CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1

CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1

The CN30×40 is a new CINE-SERVO Lens that carries on the one-of-a-kind concept of the CN20×50, providing both ultra-telephoto and portability, while expanding the range of imaging by extending both the wide-angle and telephoto ranges to achieve the highest zoom magnification in the series.

It appeals to wildlife photographers, live production markets, large-format video production, as well as long-distance surveillance, which can utilise the benefits of the ultra-telephoto zoom.

Key Features

A series that covers a wide range of needs, from whole stadiums to close-ups on subjects' faces

With just the CINE-SERVO lens series, users can cover an astounding focal length range from ultra-wide 11 mm to ultra-telephoto 1,800 mm.
From panoramic views of excitement-filled stadiums to unforgettable plays and the looks of joy on sports players' faces, users can capture a wide range of situations without missing decisive moments, with the consistent image quality and operability of all-Canon products.

Newly developed digital drive unit

Operability for shooting premium quality images

It carries on the operability and system compatibility achieved through previous broadcast lenses and digital drive units. And when used with an external power supply (PD-E2), it offers faster zoom and focus servo speeds to help with live production market shoots.

Reliability for easier equipment maintenance

With its versatile USB Type-C port, this unit provides enhanced support features for equipment setup and maintenance when preparing for shoots.

Remote virtual support

Multiple interfaces are included in response to diversifying remote shooting needs. It uses a high-resolution 16-bit absolute value encoder to enable accurate positional information detection, supporting the increasing demands for virtual production.

Higher magnification at same length and weight as the CN20×50 with even better specs

Outstanding optics support 8K cameras and cinematic image beauty

8K camera support

A culmination of Canon's optical technologies including the use of large-diameter aspherical lenses and anomalous dispersion glass provides optical performance to support 8K cameras throughout the zoom range.

Aberrations are controlled as much as possible for outstanding performance from the center of the image to the edges.

Reduced focus breathing

The optical design reduces "focus breathing," which changes in angle of view due to movement of focus position during focusing, enabling shots with consistent framing.

Beautiful bokeh with 11-blade iris

The 11-blade iris diaphragm gives natural bokeh that is nearly circular from fully open to minimum aperture. The odd number of iris blades produce a soft and diffused glow on high-brightness subjects.

Communications make cinema production more efficient

The CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1 supports 12-pin serial communication, the communication standard for broadcast cameras systems, with both mounts. And along with Cooke /i Technology support, the PL mount supports ZEISS eXtended Data for added convenience.

Cooke /i Technology

The CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1 supports Cooke's /i Technology communication standard. Connection to the PL mount contacts of a compatible camera enables real-time external output of lens metadata (focus/zoom/iris position and other data, model number) and recording and display of information.

ZEISS eXtended Data*

The CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1 supports eXtended Data, offered by ZEISS as an extension of the Cooke /i Technology communications standard. Connection to the PL mount contacts of a compatible camera enables real-time output of lens information such as shading and distortion in real time, as well as recording and correction of information.

12-pin serial communication

The CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1 supports 12-pin serial communication, the communications standard for broadcast camera systems. Connection to a compatible camera’s 12-pin connector enables operation and control of the camera just like broadcast industry standard portable lenses. It also supports peripheral light correction and magnification chromatic aberration correction*.

Supports Canon Virtual Production System

Contributes to easier, more efficient, more precise virtual production for both live and creative users

CN30×40 supports the Canon Virtual Production System. It communicates and calculates lens and camera information in real time, making it possible to retrieve CV metadata with a single Ethernet cable for recording. No prior calibration is required, and distortion data is delivered in tandem with zoom and other lens operations, allowing users to easily obtain more natural CG composited images that match and coordinate the shooting ranges of the real camerawork and the virtual space.

Genuine Canon system

The high-speed communication of the RF mount system enables real-time metadata output

The RF mount is equipped with a 12-pin electronic connection system. Optical data synced with zoom, focus, and iris can be transmitted to the camera and calculated in real time, enabling output to external sources as CV metadata via plugin. This lets users easily obtain natural CG composite images that match and coordinate real camerawork and the virtual space.

No calibration needed

Plug and Play allows data to be synced with a single cable

Canon Plug and Play enables real-time and high-speed communication of lens and camera metadata with just one Ethernet cable and without the need to calibrate each lens. This reduces equipment and prior preparation, allowing users to focus on their production work.

Continuous distortion data (synced with zoom)

Naturally synthesises boundaries between camera images and CG with no misalignment

RF mount communication delivers continuous and precise distortion data synced with images. This eliminates misalignment in borders with CG for more natural and pleasing image production. Zoom control is also supported for much greater freedom in shooting positions and composition.
