Image Stabilisastion
The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer takes image stabilisation to the next level, offering up to 5.5 stops of shutter speed compensation, making previously impossible handheld shots achievable.
When used with compatible cameras featuring an In-Body Image Stabilizer, you can get up to 8 stops of image stabilisation through Coordinated Control IS. This allows for sharp handheld captures in situations that would typically require a tripod.
Magnify Closer at 0.26x
The RF16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM is capable of focusing at a distance as near as 20cm at 28mm focal length and offers up to 0.26x magnification, allowing you to get closer to your subject for detailed close-up shots.
The synergy of the lead-screw-type STM and the exceptional autofocus capabilities of the Dual Pixel CMOS AF in EOS R cameras creates a cinematic experience with seamless and natural focus transitions. Lead-Screw Type STM

UD Lenses
The RF16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM is constructed with UD lenses with low refractive index and low dispersion. Two of these are nearly equivalent to one fluorite lens.

Aspherical Lenses
The RF16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM lens features one of the largest diameter replica aspherical lenses found in any RF lens, along with a GMo aspherical lens.
This design effectively minimises spherical aberrations and wide-angle distortions while also allowing the zoom lens to remain compact and lightweight.
Dust & Drip Resistance
This lens is built with the same durability and shock resistance as L-series lenses, making it ideal for challenging conditions. The control ring and mount joints are sealed to protect the lens from sudden rain or moisture, especially when shooting near water.
